Mumbai:
A movie outing for a family turned ugly when they had a heated argument with a group of school students, who allegedly thrashed them outside the theatre to avenge their ouster from the hall, resulting in eight arrests, police said today.
A 30-year-old unemployed man and seven SSC students were arrested on charges of assault and rioting after they trapped and assaulted 23-year-old Sunny Vaiti, his brother Amol and father Lewis Vaiti before smashing the window panes of their car near Lotus hotel in Dahisar last night, police said.
According to police, the Vaitis had gone to watch 'Agneepath' at the Movie Gem Cinema theatre yesterday. During the screening, when the item song 'Chikni Chameli' began, students started dancing causing inconvenience to Lewis' family and others sitting next to them.
One of the students stumbled into Lewis, who slapped the minor following a heated argument. The students were then thrown out of the theatre in the middle of the movie for causing inconvenience to other spectators, said the police.
They add that the enraged students then narrated the incident to Ramesh Vishwakarma, their neighbour. Vishwakarma and the students then caught hold of the Vaitis near a restaurant and started kicking and beating them with bamboos.
After a while, they escaped the spot to evade arrest, police said. "The eight accused, including seven SSC students, were nabbed from their residence in Dahisar for the crime," said Anil Pawar, inspector at Dahisar police station.
