Mumbai: Following Meteorological Department's predictions of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, Maharashtra government on Friday announced that all schools and colleges will remain closed on Saturday in Mumbai and neighbouring Thane district.
"Based on heavy rainfall predictions of IMD, Schools and colleges of Mumbai and Thane will officially remain close tomorrow," state education minister Vinod Tawde told reporters here.
Mr Tawde, who is also the guardian Minister for Mumbai suburbs also visited the control room of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai at its headquarters.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena Party President Uddhav Thackeray, his son and Yuva Sena chief Aditya and Mumbai BJP chief MLA Ashish Shelar also visited the BMC's control room to take stock of the situation.
