Mumbai: Deputy Inspector General of Police Sunil Paraskar was questioned by Mumbai Police's Crime Branch for four hours today in connection with the rape and molestation complaint filed against him by a 26-year-old model.
In a complaint filed at the Malvani police station, she had accused Mr Paraskar of rape and molestation; the case was later transferred to the Crime Branch.
According to sources, Mr Paraskar told investigators that he got to know the complainant after she registered three complaints, including one on a property dispute, during his tenure as the Additional Commissioner of Police.
In her FIR, the model had accused the senior police officer of molesting her at a flat in Navi Mumbai.
However, Mr Paraskar told investigators that the model wanted a flat on rent, so he had taken her to the flat in Navi Mumbai, which belonged to his daughter.
The model had also accused the police officer of raping her at a bungalow in Madh Island, Malad in December 2013, where, she claims, he had taken her on the pretext of showing her the site for a photo-shoot.
During questioning, the officer admitted that he had accompanied her to the bungalow but denied raping her.
Mahesh Patil, spokesperson for Mumbai police, told reporters, "A detailed statement was taken in relation to the allegations made. We have got the interim relief copy from the court. We are going to submit the detailed report. The investigation is in progress. It will take two to three days more to complete our investigation. We will submit a suitable report from what has transpired during this period."
"The complainant has been provided protection," he added.
Police may need to record the complainant's statement again, said sources in the police, adding that they will also go through SMS and email records of both the complainant and the accused.
