Sheena Bora Murder: Indrani Mukerjea Seeks Bail On Medical Grounds

Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, today moved an application in the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court seeking bail on medical grounds saying that she was suffering from frequent "blackouts".

In her 17-page bail plea moved through her lawyer, the former media executive said that her medical condition is deteriorating and she has lost 18 kilograms in 4 months.

Ms Mukerjea has also said that she wants to live in a stress-free environment.

"(Indrani) is suffering from 'chronic small vessels ischemic changes', and as a result the supply of oxygen to brain may get interrupted which may result in brain stroke and is life threatening," read her bail application, which was annexed with medical documents that ran into about 50 pages.

She has also said that she gets blackouts time and again due to her condition.

In the application, Ms Mukerjea said that it takes around 45-60 minutes to reach hospital from Byculla women's prison (where she is presently lodged now).

Citing an instance, she said that in October last year when she fell unconscious, it took more than six hours to commence treatment on her.

"On October 2, 2015 (Indrani) was unconscious at 5 am but was treated at 11:45 am," her bail application said.

Yesterday, CBI secured the court's permission to quiz Ms Mukerjea, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyam Rai, against whom charge sheet has been filed.

Last year on November 19, Peter Mukerjea, husband of Indrani, was also arrested for his alleged role in the murder case. He has been kept at the high-security Arthur Road Jail here where Mr Khanna and Mr Rai are also lodged.

24-year-old Sheena, daughter of Ms Mukerjea from an earlier relationship, was allegedly strangled in a car and then her body burnt and dumped in a forest in Raigad, about 84 kms from Mumbai.

CBI, while maintaining that financial transaction was the motive behind the murder of Sheena, had earlier said that Mr Mukerjea, during his interrogation, disclosed investments of crores of rupees made by him and his wife, and is expecting information from Interpol on the details of an account opened by Ms Mukerjea in a bank in Hong Kong.
