Mumbai: Six persons have been arrested in connection with the Rs 75 lakh dacoity at a chartered accountant's office in South Mumbai, police said.

The accused, all of whom are originally from Rajasthan, were identified as Shrawankumar Purohit (23), Shrawan Rawal (24), Deeparam Mali (23), Modaksingh Rajput (21), Kishore Gahlot (20) and Kailash Vaishnav (35). Police have recovered Rs 11.50 lakh from them.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Sharma said, "The dacoity had taken place on October 4 in Kalbadevi area under the jurisdiction of Azad Maidan police station. The accused entered the CA's office in the evening, threatened the office staff with weapons and decamped with three bags full of money and some documents."

After questioning the office staff, police came to know that a youth, who is entrusted with the task of taking the office documents for photo-copying, had told the xerox operator about some big financial transaction in his office, he said.

"The xerox shop operator's friend Shrawan kumar Purohit, who worked at a mobile accessory shop in Manish Market, overheard their conversation and planned a robbery with the help of his aides from Rajasthan," the DCP said.

Accordingly, Shrawan gave the information to Modaksingh Rajput, a history-sheeter, who had executed three robberies and dacoities in Uttar Pradesh, he added.

After the dacoity, all the accused distributed the booty as per their contribution in the crime and escaped to different locations. After the day of the crime, Shrawan did not report to work, which brought him under the police radar.

"After going through the call data records, he was arrested from Pune. Based on the information provided by him, police nabbed the rest the members from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Surat," the DCP said.

According to DCP Sharma, at least five more persons are absconding in this case.

Meanwhile, the court remanded the arrested accused in police custody till October 26.
