A Right to Information has revealed that the salaries of six Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) officials are higher than that of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and MMRC Managing Director Ashwini Bhide.
The RTI was filed by Mumbai-based RTI activist Anil Galgali.
According to Galgali, "The reply to the RTI filed by me with MMRC states that Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis' and Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd MD Ashwini Bhide's salaries are far lesser as compared to 6 officials working with the Corporation."
A press release issued by Galgali states that the six officials who are getting the high salaries are Project Director Subodh Gupta, System Director Ajay Kumar Bhat, Executive director R Ramanna, CFO Indraniel Sarkar, Executive Director (Electrical) R K Sharma, GM Civil Charuhas Jadhav.
It should be noted that the RTI activist had sought information about the salaries of officials and staff of the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd for the month of March 2016 .
The Deputy Accountant and Public Information officer of the MMRCL Ganesh Ghule provided the Galgali with a list of 119 officials and employees.
"After going through the list, it came forward that 6 officials enjoy higher salaries than even their bosses, CM Devendra Fadnavis and MD Ashwini Bhide. The officials on the top are Project Director Subodh Gupta (Rs 2,08,706), System Director Ajay Kumar Bhat (Rs 2,03,346), Executive Director (Electrical) R K Sharma (Rs 1,92,945), Executive Director R Ramanna (Rs 1,82,688), CFO Indraniel Sarkar (Rs 1,51,936), GM Civil Charuhas Jadhav (Rs 1,51,936)," states the press release
The press release further states that the Maharashtra CM's salary is Rs 57,000 and the MD of the MMRCL, Ashwini Bhide receives a salary of Rs 1,43,051.
"Almost 21 officials who have retired from the MMRDA consist the total 119 officials and staff. Out of the 21 retired officials, 5 have been rehabilitated as advisors and 5 as OSD. CGM (Track) D G Divte and Civil Advisor S R Nandirgirkar received the maximum salary of Rs 1 lakh per month each amongst the retired rehabilitated category.
"It is significant to point here that there is a stay on the appointments of retired officials after the order of the courts in the Dr Jagannath Dhone V/S State of Maharashtra. Out of the 119 , 63 are regular, 15 are on deputation, 20 on direct contract and 21 are re-employed (Retired)." the press release concluded.
