Mumbai:
The Irish journalist who was harassed by an alleged stalker in a South Mumbai hotel on Sunday and Tuesday evening, shared her experience exclusively with DNA on Wednesday.
Yvonne Moran, a 55-year-old freelance journalist visiting India for the sixth time, said "The first incident occurred on Sunday night when this person on first floor of the building in which my hotel is located [on the fourth floor]. While I was climbing up the stairs, he was standing there with his trouser zip open. He said lewd things, but I did not react and went upstairs. I informed the employees of the hotel, but by then he had fled from the spot."
Moran said that she knew the person was not a employee of the hotel. On Tuesday night, the stalker confronted Moran again at around 1.30am when she was returning. This time Moran was accompanied by a staffer of Indigo restaurant as it was too late.
Moran said, "This time the person was waiting with his trouser zip open on the staircase but was shocked when he saw the Indigo staffer accompanying me."
When I asked him what he was doing there, he said he was a security staff of the hotel. I wanted to call the police so I went downstairs but the valet parking people did not have the number so I alerted a few taxi drivers to nab him. However, he managed to escape again," she added.
The police was informed and within two hours the accused Nilesh Shingte, 26, was caught.
