Supreme Court rejects MNS plea to hold rally at Shivaji Park in Mumbai
Mumbai: The Supreme Court today rejected a plea by the Maharashtra Navnirmam Sena (MNS) to hold a political rally at the Shivaji Park in central Mumbai.

Rejecting the permission for the rally, the top court said, "the area is a declared silent zone which has large number of tridents. If we allow you it will open flood gates."

The Bombay High Court had earlier turned down the Raj Thackeray-led party's plea as the park is under the silent zone. The MNS had approached the High Court through Sandip Deshpande, its President of Dadar division, seeking permission to use loud speakers at the rally to be held on February 13 at the park. The use of loud speakers is prohibited in a silence zone.

The MNS was seeking permission to hold a rally for the municipal elections. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls will be held on February 16.
