Teen trying to park dad's car runs over 6-year-old

Mumbai: A six-year-old girl was killed in Meghwadi area at Jogeshwari on Saturday, crushed by a 17-year-old boy reversing a Toyota Qualis Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV).

Meghwadi police have arrested the teen (name withheld as he is a minor) for causing death due to negligence. He was produced before the court and then released on cash bond of Rs 3,000. He's now been sent to Dongri children's home.

According to police, the deceased, Siddhi Dirwadkar was a senior KG student and stayed in Anusuya Niwas Chawl, near Pant Samarth High School in Jogeshwari (East), along with her parents. Her father Ganpat works in a private company while her mother is a homemaker.

"The incident took place at around 11.30 am when the victim was playing along with other children in the school playground nearby. Some decoration workers in the ground, preparing it for the Ram Navami festivities, asked the boy to tell his father to move the Qualis, which was parked there," said a police officer.

"The owner of the Qualis (the boy's father) was not present at home. So the boy grabbed the keys to the vehicle and started it. As he began reversing the car, a rear wheel of the vehicle went over the victim's stomach," said an officer from Meghwadi police station.

The boy immediately rushed Siddhi to a nearby hospital with the help of locals. She was later shifted to Cooper Hospital where she was declared dead," added the officer. "We have arrested the boy who is a minor. He has been sent to the Dongri children's home," said another police officer.

Siddhi's parents, who were in a state of shock, left for their native place immediately after the cremation.
