Mumbai:
Five persons, including four teenagers, were arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl for over a month.
The victim told police that she was tortured on at least four occasions, after which, she informed her family.
The Dadar police station in suburban Mumbai arrested Mahesh Mane, Hitesh Kalokh and Ashwin Murudkar (all aged 19), Pawan Angre (18) and a taxi driver Anand Landge (44) on the charges of rape after the victim filed a case against them.
However, another accused Vicky Mohite, who also had allegedly raped the girl once, is absconding and is presently out of Mumbai, police said.
Senior Inspector of Dadar police station, Ashok Unde said the girl was raped on several occasions by the accused at different places and was threatened with dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone.
On May 4, Mahesh asked her to come to his house to cook food, as nobody was present at his house at that time. After the victim went inside the room, Pawan allegedly locked it and kept a watch while the former raped her, police said.
The girl was raped for the second time on May 7 at a secluded spot near Worli Sports Club ground, they said. Unde said the girl was traumatised and threatened.
On May 30, Ashwin, Pawan and Anand took her to a spot near Keerti College and later in Anand's cab, where Ashwin and Anand raped her, they said, adding, the victim did not return home on May 26 and was found in a nearby house the next day.
After observing her changed behaviour, the girl's family asked her the problem and she narrated the incidents, after which, a complaint was filed and the accused were nabbed.
The police have registered a case of rape and criminal intimidation against all those involved and are now in the process of hunting the sixth accused. The accused were produced in Bhoiwada Court that remanded them to police custody till June 9.
