A 26-year-old woman in Thane pushed her two kids off the 15th floor, then jumped to death.
Thane:
Five-year-old Taufiq Sheikh is being treated for multiple fractures at a hospital in Mumbai. That he is alive is a miracle.
On Sunday, Taufiq was thrown off the 15th floor of an under-construction building in Thane's Mumbra by his mother Shireen Sheikh, who also pushed his little sister before jumping.
26-year-old Shirin Sheikh and her four-year-old daughter Amrin died on the spot. Taufiq fell on the iron roof of a shed before hitting the ground.
Shirin Sheikh had locked her businessman husband, who was sleeping, in their house before leaving with the children.
A fight in the family is believed by the police to be a trigger. Police have registered a case of accidental death; they have not found a suicide note either from the spot where Ms Sheikh jumped or from her house in an apartment complex in Mumbra.
Ms Sheikh allegedly took her children to the 24-storey building on Sunday morning, claiming to the security guard that she wanted to see a sample flat and went up to the 15th floor. The construction site is not far from the housing complex she lived.
The police in Mumbra have questioned the husband and also the woman's mother.
Senior police officer KD Katkar was quoted by Mid-Day as saying, "We questioned Shirin's husband and her mother but they are not holding anyone responsible."
