Three-day water cut in Mumbai as large pipeline under repair
Mumbai: Mumbaikars will have to brace up for water cuts as the local civic body will undertake replacement work of pipelines in the city to augment water supply for three days.
     
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today said it has undertaken the task of replacing the trunk mains at the Maroshi-Vakola-Ruparel College tunnel, following which various parts of city and suburbs will have to go without water for different days from January 10 to 12.
    
According to the BMC, Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Nariman Point, Backbay Reclamation, Fort, Churchgate, Oshiwara, Andheri (East) and Jogeshwari (East) will face 100 per cent water cut, on January 10.
    
On January 11, there will be no water in Kalbadevi, CP Tank, Girgaum, Thakurdwar, Mumbai Central, Versova, Yari Road, Andheri (West), Vile Parle (West), Santacruz (East), Bandra (East), MIDC in Andheri (East).
    
Residents of Cuffe Parade, Colaba, Navy Nagar, Churchgate, Andheri (West), Vile Parle (East) will have to do without water on January 12.
    
Meanwhile, Worli, Prabhadevi, Dadar (West) to Mahim, Ghatkopar and Kurla will face 50 per cent water cuts from January 10 to 12. There will be 10 per cent water cut during the same period in Goregaon and Malad, the civic body said.
    
"The work of fixing the 2,400 mm valve on 2,500 mm Bhandup-Maroshi main as part of Maroshi-Vakola-Mahim-Ruparel tunnel project is proposed to be executed from January 10 to 12. The line will have to be isolated for 72 hours," the BMC said.
