Mumbai: A young woman in Mumbai, Pallavi Vikamsey, was found dead last evening on train tracks in central Mumbai in between Parel and Currey Road stations on the Central Railway network. The police says it was an accidental death and suspects that she fell off a train, though sources say text messages sent by her allegedly told her family "no one is responsible".
Ms Vikamsey is the daughter of Nilesh Vikamsey, who heads the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), which decides accounting and audit rules for firms in the country. She was reported missing by her family on Wednesday when she did not return home from the law firm where she was interning in South Mumbai.
The police says that she sent text messages to her family before heading home on Wednesday that said "nobody is responsible". Her cellphone was switched off after that and has not been found.
The Press Trust of India reports that the young woman fell from the train after which another train ran over her and that her body was found in two parts.
CCTV footage seen by the police shows her boarding a local train at Mumbai's main train station - the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus or CST - on Wednesday at around 6 pm. It takes 15 minutes for the sort of local train she took to cover the distance from there to Parel, where her family lives.
"We registered an accidental death report regarding it at the Dadar GRP police station. Today [Thursday], her relatives confirmed her as Pallavi Vikamsey. We handed her body over to them after the post mortem. Investigation is going on," said Samadhan Pawar, a senior officer with the railways police.
