In Dadar, Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena or MNS held three government engineers captive for six hours in their office at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The engineers were allowed to leave only after they gave a written assurance that they would fix potholes as soon as the rain stopped. (

MNS leaders admitted that it was "undemocratic" to hold the officials against their will, but said "there was no other way." There are 54 potholes in Dadar alone, they pointed out.
Dadar is only one of the areas in Mumbai where potholes and poor maintenance of roads has led to severe water-logging and traffic jams.
