Mumbai: Despite Uddhav Thackeray's assertion that he would not accept a "twisted" alliance deal with the BJP for next year's civic polls in Mumbai, he was keen to sew up an alliance, a senior BJP minister claimed today.

"Despite Uddhav Thackeray's public statements, the fact is that he is keen on alliance with us for BMC polls," the minister said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

About the growing chorus from cadres of both the BJP and Shiv Sena that the two parties should not have alliance for the BMC polls, the minister said it was natural for the cadres to oppose alliance, because seat-sharing "curtails their ambitions".

Addressing Shiv Sena workers on Sunday at the party's golden jubilee year celebration, Mr Thackeray said he would not have any "twisted" alliance with the ruling partner BJP for BMC polls, and asked the cadres to be ready to contest the polls without alliance.
