Mumbai:
A day after a Nepali woman's body was found in Mumbai's suburban Versova, the city police on Sunday arrested a man, who claims to be a film producer, along with his driver and the victim's minor daughter on charges of murder and destroying evidence.
"Krishnendu Sharma (40), a small time producer, his adopted daughter, whose biological mother is the deceased, and his driver Ashish Pandey were arrested," senior inspector at Versova police station Nandkumar Mhetar said.
The decomposed body of the 40-year-old Sunita Bahadur Singh, wrapped in cloth, was found on Saturday in Siddharth Nagar slums of Versova. Her body bore injuries caused by a sharp weapon. As the investigation progressed, the needle of suspicion pointed towards Sharma, a resident of Lokhandwala in suburban Andheri, Mhetar said.
"He was thoroughly grilled, when he confessed to have murdered the woman with a knife on Wednesday and then with the help of his 14-year-old adopted daughter and driver Pandey abandoned it in Versova on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday," he said.
According to police, the Nepali national used to stay in suburban Malwani along with his daughter.
"Sharma, who knew Sunita, had adopted her daughter over a year ago and shifted her to a rented house in Goregaon area.
Since last month, she started staying in Sharma's second flat in Amboli area as she suffered AIDS. Sharma had been footing the bills for her treatment and on Wednesday, the duo had an argument, following which Sharma stabbed her death and left the body in the house," Mhetar said.
