Mumbai: A 35-year-old man in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district was kept in chains for 35 days because he was planning to elope with a girl.
Arun Sartabe was rescued by the police on Wednesday, after people in the village heard Arun's cries for help and informed the police.
The girl's step brothers had kidnapped him and kept him in chains, the police say.
Both the brothers have been arrested.
"He was taken as a hostage on June 13. He was rescued by the crime branch yesterday. He was badly beaten," said Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Superintendent of Police, Yavatmal.
