Woman threatens to jump off hoarding in Mumbai, stalls traffic
Mumbai: There is an English phrase: crying wolf. It means threatening to do something all the time, but never making good on your threat. That may apply to Sapna Perreira, resident of Hanuman Nagar, Vile Parle who became a traffic stopper yesterday, opposite the Byculla fire brigade.

At 12 pm, Sapna Perreira clambered up a hoarding in the area, to call attention to her plight. She claimed that she was seeking Rs 20 lakh, for treatment for her visually impaired daughter, Soni Prema. Perreira said that she had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for these funds, needed for the treatment in the US under Dr M Trese.

Background checks show that Perreira is a repeat offender and these stunts are designed to catch eyeballs and cameras. In May 2009, she tried to strangulate herself at the MHADA office as she claimed she did not get a house in the MHADA lottery scheme.

In July 2010, she climbed a tower in Mangalore as she said she wanted an opportunity to meet the Commissioner of Police.

In September 2011, she climbed a tower opposite the Thane jail.

Yesterday, she provided three hours of mind-boggling action. She is currently in JJ Hospital.  Byculla Police is looking to register an attempt to suicide case. Maybe this time, Sapna Perreira will realise the universal truth of the axiom: the higher you climb, the harder you fall. Well, ouch.
