Six occupants of a car were killed in a highway accident in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar early this morning. Their car rammed a truck's rear end on National Highway-58 at around 4 am, resulting in the deaths, said police.
The victims, who were from Delhi, were travelling to Haridwar when the incident occurred, they added.
"The car was badly damaged in the accident and the police had to use cranes to retrieve it. The victims had already died when they were brought out. Still we took them to the hospital where doctors declared them dead," said the police in a statement.
The victims were residents of Shahdara in Delhi and their families have been informed. There is a curve where the accident occurred and it seems the car was travelling at high speed and lost control, said an official.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the deaths and instructed authorities to ensure proper treatment of those injured.
"Chief Minister Shri @myogiadityanath Ji Maharaj has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in a road accident in Muzaffarnagar district and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. Maharaj Ji, while praying to Lord Shri Ram for peace of the departed souls and speedy recovery of the injured, has instructed the concerned authorities for proper treatment of all the injured," his office said on X, formerly Twitter.
