Muzaffarnagar: An ancient idol of lord Vishnu worth crores in the international market was stolen
from a Shiv temple at Nayamu village in the district, police said on Thursday.
Some unidentified persons broke open the doors of the temple last night and took the idol with them, Deputy Superintendent Alok Piryadarshi said, adding a police team rushed to the spot and started investigations into the case.
Meanwhile, agitated over the incident, locals held a protest and blocked the road.
The idol was later recovered from a farmer's field and was restored back to the temple.
