Clerk embezzles Rs 85 lakhs in Uttar Pradesh

Muzaffarnagar: A clerk working at the social welfare department in the Uttar Pradesh government has been accused of embezzling Rs 85 lakhs.

Anil Kumar allegedly opening a forged account in the name the department at a nationalised bank by in connivance with some officials of the bank and later withdrew Rs 85 lakh from it.

Kumar is accused of opening a fake account in collaboration with some officials of the local bank, Chief Development Officer, Digvijay Singh, told reporters in Muzaffarnagar on Monday.

A case against the clerk and bank officials of the United Bank of India was registered on Monday, police said.

The clerk is said to be absconding.
