The National Human Rights Commission has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to provide a compensation of Rs five lakh to the family of a youth, who was killed in a fake encounter by police in Moradabad district.

Following the direction, Muzaffarnagar SSP V B Singh yesterday handed over a cheque of Rs five lakh to the mother Hasina Begum as the compensation amount.

The mother had alleged that the police had picked up her son Wasim from their house in Muzaffarnagar and killed him in an encounter in Moradabad on May, 26, 2005.

The commission had also directed that the amount would be recovered from the salary of the policemen, who were found guilty in the killing.
