Noida: Two persons were arrested from Pari Chowk in Greater Noida on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a Mercedes-Benz car from a showroom on the pretext of test drive, police said, saying that they have recovered the vehicle.
Two men, Prashant and Ankur were arrested today for stealing the car on the pretext of test driving it to Jagat Farms from a showroom in Noida Sector 8 on Sunday, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sujata Singh said.
"But they had to abandon the car in Khurja, after driving around 70 km, because its engine had seized. They had filled diesel instead of petrol in the car. The car was recovered from near a road in the area last night," the officer said.
A police team later arrested the two men from Pari Chowk after receiving information that they were on their way to Noida, Mr Singh said.
Both the men were residents of Salarpur in Noida. Prashant had planned to take the car to Aligarh, his home town.
"They have admitted to have stolen two more cars on a similar modus operandi from Noida Phase 2 and Agra," the police officer said.
