Noida:
Seven water treatment and packaging plants were sealed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Noida during raids in the last two days, officials said.
Three plants were sealed today and their water sample was collected, while four others were sealed yesterday, Chief Food Inspector (FDA), Vineet Kumar said.
Samples were taken from the water packaging plant of Davendra at Surajpur, Durga beverages Pvt Ltd and the Osmocare unit for analysis after they were sealed, he added.
"All these units were running illegally. They did not have any testing lab and no licence for the unit," Mr Kumar said.
"Water packaging unit of Shabbir was seized by the FDA team at Sadarpur sector 45 Noida and samples of 20 litres packaged water jar were collected," he added.
Samples were also taken from the water plant of one Lala Chauhan located at Sadarpur and a water plant run by Yogesh Chauhan at Chhalera, Mr Kumar said.
"One plant owner, Darshan ran away closing the unit and the department has put a notice on the plant," said Noida Food Safety Officer, SN Singh.
"This drive was launched on directions from Prime Minister Office and district magistrate NP Singh's initiative to provide safe drinking water to residents and samples are being taken to ensure that water does not have any harmful elements," Mr Singh said.
The samples were collected in April and sent for quality testing of which the report is awaited, he added.
The raids were conducted on the orders of District Magistrate NP Singh to the Sub-divisional Magistrates to identify the illegal water plants and take action.
