Most users are not aware of the concrete construction of the Yamuna highway
Greater Noida:
The International Road Federation today pitched for the use of an Intelligent Transport System to curb increasing road accidents on the Yamuna Expressway.
Expressing concern over the rising number of road accidents, the Geneva-based body which is working for better and safer roads also called for creating awareness about conditions on the highways.
"The driving conditions on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Noida-Agra Expressway are different from other roads. For safe driving, Intelligent Transport System (ITS) along with strict enforcement of speed limits has to be implemented," said IRF Chairman KK Kapila.
"Most users are not aware of the concrete construction of the Yamuna highway. For using such surface, vehicle tyres and condition has to be checked, along with driving conditions like weather and visibility," Mr Kapila said at a press meet held in connection with the World Road Meeting 2017 in Greater Noida from November 14 to 17.
He added that pre-warning about weather as well as road and driving conditions should be issued to drivers in advance by the highway concessionaires.
