Students protesting after Kashmiri students were beaten at a hostel in Greater Noida
More than 100 college students from Kashmir have been relocated from a hostel in Uttar Pradesh after three of them were allegedly assaulted over the weekend when they refused to shout anti-Pakistan slogans.
"If the universities or state authorities can't protect Kashmiri students coming there then man up & admit your inability or unwillingness," tweeted Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
In March, students at a university in Meerut, also in Uttar Pradesh, were targeted for cheering for Pakistan during a cricket match against India.
This weekend's alleged assault took place on Saturday night at a private hostel in Greater Noida, just across the border from Delhi in Uttar Pradesh.
The police says the hostel is privately run and caters to students from different universities in the neighbourhood. A group of students from one college allegedly attacked the Kashmiris, who are enrolled at the Noida International University.
In March, Kashmiri students at a university in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh ran into trouble after they cheered for Pakistan during a cricket match with India.
The police was prepping to charge the students with sedition, which can earn a life term, but that was dropped after strong protests from Mr Abdullah and the intervention of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
