Nine IT employees were injured after a lift in a Noida high-rise building fell unexpectedly, authorities said. The lift in Noida Sector 125's River Side Tower, where the men worked, crashed from the 8th floor injuring all nine occupants.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident, the police said.
The incident occurred at 5.45 pm, while the employees of Erasmith Technologies were on their way home after work from their office on the 8th floor, a senior police officer said.
Five out of the nine were admitted to the ICU after they sustained serious injuries on their arms and legs. The rest are also undergoing treatment and their condition is now stable. Of the five in the ICU, four have been moved to the general ward.
"Erasmith Technologies is an IT developer company and its office is located on the building's eighth floor. The injured employees were immediately taken to the private Jaypee Hospital. Two of them are all right while the others are undergoing treatment. None of them is in critical condition," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Harish Chander told news agency PTI.
Those injured have been identified as Piyush Sharma (22), Abhishek Pandit (23), Abhishek Gupta (24), Saurabh Katia (28), Rajat Sharma (29), Shubham Bhardwaj (22), Yashu Sharma (23), Sagar (25) and Abhijeet Singh (23).
Two maintenance workers were taken into custody, the police said.
Lift falls have become common in high-rise buildings in Noida and Greater Noida this year, leading to injuries and even deaths.
