The deceased identified as Amit Singh, was posted as an assistant commissioner in the Special Cell of Delhi Police.
New Delhi:
A senior Delhi Police officer allegedly shot himself dead, after which his wife allegedly jumped off the balcony of their fourth floor apartment in Noida near Delhi on Monday night.
Amit Singh, 34, was an assistant commissioner in the Special Cell of the Delhi Police. The couple have an 18-month-old daughter.
After residents of their apartment building in Sector 100 of Noida called the police, the couple was taken to hospital. Mr Singh was declared dead and his wife, a doctor, is critical.
It is not known what led to the incident. The officer allegedly locked himself in a room and committed suicide. On hearing the shot, his wife Sarita reportedly ran down and called the guard and neighbours. When she saw his body, she allegedly rushed to the balcony and jumped.
Police sources say Mr Singh and his wife had fought recently. They had married three years ago.
"The sequence of events is not clear. They have a daughter. Let us complete investigations then we can say," said Dinesh Yadav, a senior Noida police officer.
