Dev Anand to remake 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna'
Mumbai: Actor-filmmaker Dev Anand is all set to remake his 1971 blockbuster 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna',replacing the hippie culture that the original film highlighted with a modern premise."I know that people want another 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna'. The script is ready. If hippies were the trend of 1970s, there are drugs even today. That story was different. This (the remake) will be different because I will have to look at today's trends," the 87-year-old veteran said."It was an out-of-the-box film. I can't repeat the same concept of the 1970s as it cannot work in today's world. The film has been made keeping in mind today's thinking," he added. The evergreen filmmaker had tasted success with 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' which talked about the prevalent hippie culture. The film carried an anti-drugs message and also depicted problems associated with westernization. His find, actress Zeenat Aman, who played the mini-skirt wearing, pot-smoking Janice, became an overnight sensation and the song 'Dum Maro Dum' featuring her became very popular.Dev Anand is also ready with his next film 'Chargesheet', a suspense-murder drama, starring himself, Jackie Shroff, Zeenat Aman, Naseeruddin Shah, and Divya Dutta among others."'Charge Sheet' is very contemporary. It is a suspense genre, a murder story of two hours duration. I think it should do very well because I have made it with tremendous gusto. Thefilm should release in two months," Dev Anand said. The actor's last few directorial ventures, 'Censor' (2001), 'Love at Times Square' (2003) and 'Mr. Prime Minister' (2005) sank without a trace. But the legendary filmmaker is not disheartened."I know of late my films have not done well. So what? It happens. May be I made some mistakes in publicity, distribution and other areas. But all my films are very closeto my heart," the actor said.
