Hot Hair Trend Alert

This season saw the comeback of two of the biggest hair trends of all time, the 50s chignons and 60s bouffants. Elongated chignons at Prada and YSL and beautiful bouffants at Rochas and Vera Wang bought back memories of the ultimate sex kitten, Brigitte Bardot.

A chic chignon or a voluminous bouffant is not only a glamourous hair look but also a quick fashionable fix to a bad hair day. The beauty of this trend is that you can personalise it: you can minimize the excessive height, go old school with your hair slick and pulled back, or let loose a few strands. Everyone can wear a bouffant with complete ease.

Get the look: International celebrity hair stylist Kim Robinson tells you the easy way to pull off a sexy chignon.

You will need a good bristle brush, curling tongs or a straightening iron, a medium to firm hold hairspray, hair grips and bands and a few hair accessories to perk up your hair do.

Put your hair back in a pony tail, secure it tightly, wrap your hair around the elastic in a circular motion until the loose strands are neatly tucked into the chignon and secure with pins.

Spray all unwanted frizzy strands smooth with a firm hold hair spray and add an accessory such as a leather hair band or statement hair clip to add instant glamour to your look.

To achieve a modern bouffant, pump up the volume on the crown of your head with a volumising product.

Tease the crown by back combing the hair sections and loosely secure at the back of your head. Finish with a hold spray.
