As India celebrates its 68th Independence Day, this August 15 is a day for citizens of our country to feel proud and patriotic. But while they bubble over with national fervor, can they name the national anthem? Sadly and surprisingly, many people can't.
Ahead of this very important day, Immortal Dreamz, a YouTube channel conducted a quiz in and around Bangalore to see how many people could answer basic questions about India. Some of these answers will really shock you.
They begin by asking people, "What is the national anthem of India?" We don't know if some of these people were camera shy - and we really hope that was reason - because a couple of them answered "
Vande Mataram".
What's worse is that some of these people couldn't name the colours of our national flag, let alone explain what they stand for. One person said red and that it stands for love.
The team also asked questions like: -What is our national emblem?-How many spokes are there in the Ashoka Chakra?-How long does it take to sing the national anthem? -What is the difference between Independence Day and Republic Day?-Can you name any five freedom fighters?
Not surprisingly, since they couldn't even name Jana Gana Mana, most people were stumped by these questions. And sorry, but Indira Gandhi wasn't a freedom fighter.
Thankfully, people did say some nice things when asked, "How will you celebrate Independence Day?"
So while we leave you to watch this video, we suggest you also take a look at
this two-year-old answer questions about India. You may not feel as bad.
