Car gets 'AK-47' on number plate at Rs 85,000
Jammu: Hogging the headlines for the past fortnight, the figure AK-47 on number plate was finally alloted to a car owner for Rs 85,000 in an open bidding organised by Jammu and Kashmir Regional Transport Office (JKRTO).

The figure has been alloted to Mohmmad Rafiq Mir, who made the highest bid of Rs 85,000 at the RTO here on Saturday, Regional Transport Officer Jammu, Ramesh Chander Sharma said.

"I am happy to get the figure as I am crazy about it (AK-47)," Mir of Poonch district, said.

RTO organised the open bidding to sell special numbers of AK series, including AK-47. "Around 35 people turned up for it," Sharma said.

"Earlier figures like 007, 786, 420, 370, 470, 777 and 888 were the most sought-after figures by people. But AK series generated a greater response," an RTO official said.
