It's been 40 years since the release of the immortal film Deewar. With so many legendary dialogues that made every scene in this movie a masterpiece, the film starred the inimitable Amitabh Bachchan and the ever-grave Shashi Kapoor and together they played the bad brother-good cop duo.
Directed by Yash Chopra, the film had haunting angry-sad glares from crooked brother Vijay who brought in the moolah, and some deadly poker-faced stares from Ravi, the good cop who could never manage to earn enough. As if this wasn't enough to bring the house down, this film also had Nirupa Roy, who with her expressive eyebrows and utterly brilliant dialogue delivery, was arguably the finest 70s on-screen mom.

Scripted by the maverick duo Salim-Javed, here's presenting the best dialogues from this film in no particular order. Because we just do not have it in us to rank them:

Scripted by the maverick duo Salim-Javed, here's presenting the best dialogues from this film in no particular order. Because we just do not have it in us to rank them:
- The dialogue to beat all dialogues. Main aaj bhi feke hue paise nai uthata, said the amazing Amitabh Bachchan, and the nation pledged to do the same ;-)
- Sapne bhi samundar ki lehron ki tarah haqeeqat ki chattano se takraate hi toot jaate hain, thus spake the angry young man. And we shed a tear too, feeling all the feels Vijay felt.

- The face-off between the two brother resulted in this dialogue about usool and adarsh and the world wasn't the same anymore.
"Uff tumhare usool, tumhare adarshKis kaam ke hain tumhare usool?
Tumhare saare usoonlon ko gond kar ek waqt ki roti nai banayo ja sakti"
Tumhare saare usoonlon ko gond kar ek waqt ki roti nai banayo ja sakti"

- Shashi Kapoor, the unrelenting honest cop spouted this wisdom nonchalantly, and car-lovers are still trying to recover from this hit.
"Car se aane wale aksar der se aate hain"

- "Jiss raaste par main chal raha hoon uska anjaam shayan bura bhi ho sakta hai. Lekin jis raste par tum chal rahe ho uska anjaam sirf bura hi hota hai bhai", said Shashi.

- Conversations came with a conditions apply tag and everyone was okay with it.
"Jab tak ek bhai bol raha hai, ek bhai sunn raha hai..
Jab ek mujrim bolega, ek police officer sunega.."

- "Suna hai lift ki deewaaron ke kaan nahin hote!" Since there were no CCTV cameras back then.

- "Zyada paisa aaye toh neend nahi aati ... neend aaye toh zyada paisa nahi aata": Shashi Kapoor on the effects of Capitalism.

- "Ye duniya ek third class ka dibba ban gayi hai..jagah bohot kam hai, musafir zyada" - Shashi Kapoor succinctly summarizing overpopulation.

- "Aaj khush toh bohot hoge tum", asked a very angry Big B in the famous temple scene.

- "Jao pehle uss aadmi ka sign lekar aao jisne mere haath pe ye likh diya tha... uske baad mere bhai tum jis kagaz pe kahoge main uspe sign kar doonga" - the angry young man was not one to be trifled with and everyone learned that the hard way in his films.
- "Tu abhi itna ameer nai hua beta ki apni maa ko kharid sake", said Nirupa Roy to thundering applause. Because who can stop themselves from cheering this astonishingly strong mother?

- AB: "Aaj mere paas building hai, property hai, bank balance hai, bangla hai, gaadi hai..kya hai kya hai tumhare pass?"
