"You're in such good shape," Mr Trump can be heard saying to Ms Macron, before turning to the French President and continuing, "She's in such good physical shape. Beautiful." His appraisal of Ms Macron's appearance did not go unnoticed on Twitter, where many called him out for the inappropriate remark:
Mr. Trump - Women do not want to hear unsolicited remarks on what you think of their bodies. Its gross, and deeply inappropriate. https://t.co/odKQTGVY17

People will shrug and say, "#Trump was just offering her a compliment!" It's creepy and over the line to comment on a person's body. 2/

The comment came after an awkward and long handshake between the two. Mr Trump is, in fact, known for his handshakes. Many described his latest one with the first lady of France as 'cringe-worthy'.
