Footage from a drone camera shows the car hurtling headlong through water on the bridge during the tide.
"You couldn't make this up...honestly. There was a Monk, a Woman and a Taxi crossing the North sea...'" - says the descriptor for a video going viral. It shows the exact moment an Uber driver decided to race a rising tide along the Holy Island Causeway in Lindisfarne, England and instantly regretted it.
Footage from a drone camera shows the car hurtling headlong through water on the bridge during the tide. It's clear from the video that the tide eventually won after occupants of the car had to be rescued by the coast guard.
The video, published by Mark Bradshaw ABirdsEyeView Media Productions on October 29, has amassed over 2.7 million views on YouTube.
"Went out to fly with the Phantom 3 Adv at Holy Island, Lindisfarne, and caught a taxi trying to cross the already water covered causeway, with the high tide coming in fast, 1 hour later than tide timings state," says the descriptor for the video. "That didn't stop this guy risking his fare, driving through the sea with his passengers on board trying to get to the mainland. Makes it to the refuge shelter, but thought he was going to go for the gold at one point. Well done to the Coastguard volunteers who came to rescue them."
Since the causeway gets covered with water during high tides, the Holy Island website has listed specific timings 'in good faith' when one can cross it. A slight miss in the timings and this is the result you get - and according to the international press, the miss in timing is fairly frequent.
We wonder if this particular Uber driver got a five star rating for the ride.
