Chandigarh:
They asked for votes, but are getting a makeover. That's what fashion-design students of INIFD are planning to give our politicians this election season.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani, BSP supremo Mayawati, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will get a complete makeover solution, courtesy INIFD students who seem to be inspired by the rise of US President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama as fashion icons.
"If Barack Obama and Michelle Obama can feature on the cover of international magazines for their style quotient why not our own leaders?" asks International Institute of Fashion Design vice president Aditi Srivastava.
INIFD students made news last year for giving a makeover to 'Ravana'. But they are not planning anything radical for the politicos.
The students are working on a prefect blend of modern looks and traditional Indian attire for our leaders, Srivastava said.
The institute is also holding a nationwide contest for students to transform the regular image of leaders.
As part of this contest, students will submit designs and sketches of the new look they plan for the politicians along with mood-board. A panel of designers and celebrities will decide the best design.
INIFD will get the garments fabricated on these selected designs and present the garments to the leaders so they can sport the "new look" after the elections. To give a glimpse of looks to be supported by political leaders, students of INIFD Chandigarh centre have created a few sample design sketches of the five chosen leaders.
Even the fabric for these garments has been created by the INIFD students of Textile design, she said. The contest to give image makeover to five national politicians was launched at all INIFD centres pan India on April 29 and the students would submit the designs by May 7, the date of the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections.
