He Shot Himself Underwater in the Name of Science. This is the Result

This is definitely one of the more incredible stories you'll read this week, month, year. Imagine standing in front of a loaded gun, pulling the trigger and living to tell the tale - that is the precise point Norwegian physicist Andreas Solberg Wahl was looking to make with his experiment which involved shooting himself underwater.

In a video posted by YouTube channel NRK Viten, Mr Wahl can be seen standing underwater in a swimming pool facing a semi-automatic gun. He then goes on to fire the weapon to prove that the bullet would not get close enough to hurt him. Because science.

"It's harder to create movement in water than in air, because water molecules are closer together than air molecules," says the YouTube descriptor. Posted last weekend, the video has over 7 million views on YouTube.

The video captures exactly what happens right from the time the gun goes off in amazing slow motion. It's more than a treat to watch.

This isn't the physicist's first brush with danger. Mr Wahl regularly puts his Life On The Line on his show in the name of science. His other famous and rather daunting experiments include free falling from a rope with a weight on the other end and spraying himself with water and then roasting himself.

It's a good thing all these experiments are thoroughly tested way in advance by professionals. Needless to say, don't try any of this at home - even though it worked for Mr Wahl.
