It may have been two and a half years since the 2016 US presidential elections, but Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are still sparring on Twitter. However, this time, if reactions on the microblogging site are anything to go by, it seems Ms Clinton has the upper hand, all thanks to her clever use of a Mean Girls meme.
Following confirmation that Ms Clinton was not running for president in 2020, US President Donald Trump shared a sarcastic tweet mocking her. "Aw-shucks, does that mean I won't get to run against her again? She will be sorely missed!" he wrote.
“(Crooked) Hillary Clinton confirms she will not run in 2020, rules out a third bid for White House.” Aw-shucks, does that mean I won't get to run against her again? She will be sorely missed!

Ms Clinton kept things simple. Soon after Donald Trump's tweet, she shared an iconic scene from Mean Girls on her timeline. In the GIF she shared, Regina George says "Why are you so obsessed with me?"

And Twitter collectively stood up to applaud her, because who doesn't love a Mean Girls reference used well?
So this happened. @HillaryClinton is officially my hero. #meangirls #truthspeak pic.twitter.com/OYkYvpeRlC

He's trying to make “Crooked” happen. Stop trying to make “Crooked” happen Donald.

In an interview on Monday, Hillary Clinton ruled out running for president in 2020. "I'm not running, but I'm going to keep on working and speaking and standing up for what I believe," she said.
