Last October, we told you about some of cinema's biggest names collaborating with Google to crowdsource a film about India. The internet giant has now released the stunning first look of 'India in a Day,' and to say it looks promising would an understatement.
On the same lines as their first video urging citizens to share their perspective of India in a single day, this first look is in the form of a video montage shared by people from across the country.
"This first look video, which was previewed during Sundar Pichai's keynote at Google For India, tells the stories of people whose lives are being transformed by the Internet," it says on YouTube. Among these people is a man who is the only person in his village who knows English, another who explains how he uses his neighbour's Wi-Fi to access Internet and yet another who explains how it's common for five families to use one Wi-Fi router. There are also many other breathtaking shots of India in the video.
The first glimpse of the feature-length film, set to release this year, promises to be a treat. And why wouldn't it be, considering The Martian director Ridley Scott and acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap are partnering with Google on the project? Along with them, Canadian filmmaker Richie Mehta and our own Zoya Akhtar, Shekhar Kapur and R Balki have served as creative consultants on the film.
"Communication, education, technology, transportation, population, politician, we are going to make this nation, we are going to develop this nation," says a gentleman in the clip. "I am a citizen of a very great country and I'm proud of it."
