Koala Found Stranded At Sea Rescued By Coast Guard. See Pics

It was a happy ending for the stranded koala

Koalas are not known for their swimming abilities, so this furry fella had a lucky escape thanks to the coast guard who found him, weirdly enough, stranded at sea. The incident occurred on October 8 in Australia, when the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard discovered the marsupial on the moorings of a boat about 300 metres off the coast of Warneet in Victoria, according to the Herald Sun.

"The crew noticed the koala hanging onto a rope, so they saved him by getting him back on board," said coast guard Jeremy West to the Herald Sun.

The koala was dried off with towels and covered in a blanket before being released into nearby bushland.

"It was pretty surprising, it's not everyday you come across a koala in the water! The koala looked pretty happy when it was back on the land," said Mr West.

"It was a good feel story with a happy ending for our furry little friend," said Deanne Semmens of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard to NDTV.

Heartwarming pictures of the adorable koala, meanwhile, have won over social media. "Glad you found and rescued him and I bet he was very glad too," writes one commenter on Facebook. "Well done coast guard," says another.
