Kuala Lumpur: Amid reports of high divorce rate, a Malaysian state is offering free second honeymoon trip to any married couple on the brink of break-up.
The honeymoon package being offered by the Terenggnu state comes with some counselling, as the aim is to bring peace between feuding couples, the Star newspaper reported on Monday.
The state will pay for the package, which is to be launched by the end of the year, a move prompted by the reportedly high divorce rate in Terenggnu.
Before the launch of the scheme, specific modules would be incorporated in it that would help husband and wife to turn back to each other and stay married, State Welfare, Community Development and Women Affairs committee Chairman Ashaari Idris said.
The programme would be jointly implemented by the state government and the Family and Community Development Council.
Ashaari said the state had done a pilot project where 25 couples facing marital woes were selected for the honeymoon package. They spent three days and two nights away from home, and the outcome had been positive, he said, without giving any details of how many marriages were saved.
