Almost a week ago, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted about an Indian man who walked a distance of 1,000 km over a period of two years to attend court proceedings in Dubai just to obtain a flight ticket to return home. Ms Swaraj, who is in hospital being treated for kidney failure, said she had asked for a report from the Indian Embassy in Dubai. Earlier today, Ms Swaraj tweeted again, to say that Jagannathan Selvaraj is finally home and back in his village.

The foreign minister, who has been in hospital since November 7, tweeted:

Since being shared some two hours before writing this, Ms Swaraj's tweet has received over 385 retweets and over 1,100 'likes' on Twitter.

On November 30, the minister became aware of Mr Selvaraj's predicament in Dubai and immediately sprang into action.

Mr Selvaraj, a native of Tiruchirappalli, had to make the 22 km journey one way to attend labour court proceedings in Dubai, reports PTI. However, since he did not have money to commute by bus, he spent about four hours walking to and from court for his hearings.

"He went up and down to the court 20 times over a year. That made it 1,000 kms," Sushma Swaraj said in her tweet.

The external affairs minister has been known to promptly respond to SOS tweets from those in distress and continues to do so even from hospital. She is winning even more praise on Twitter, with tweeple either asking about her health or applauding her work.
