Meet Miss Moti - the protagonist of a fabulous comic-series who is plus-sized and proud of it. She's an unlikely protagonist. She doesn't aim to be thinner, fairer or younger - she celebrates life and herself as is. Even her name, Moti, can mean two things. Moti, in Hindi, means fat - a word that is often uses negatively for body-shaming. On the other hand, 'moti' with a soft 't' means a pearl - something precious and pure. The amalgamation of these two led to the creation of Miss Moti.
Her creator, Kripa Joshi, is an illustrator from Nepal who studied at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in India, and later at School of Visual Arts in New York City. According to her
website, Miss Moti was born out of Kripa's own struggle with weight loss. The idea behind the character was to have a woman who was happy with the way she looked, love handles and all.
