The woman was completely unaware of her hair situation while playing a game on her phone.
If having to sit cheek-by-jowl in the cramped space of economy on a plane wasn't bad enough, an unidentified woman "invented a whole new way to be awful at 35,000 feet" and subsequently went viral.
Dante Ramos, a columnist for Boston Globe, tweeted an in-flight picture of a fellow passenger that would make frequent or non-frequent flyers alike cringe to the bone. We're not kidding. If you take personal space seriously, prepare to be mega-peeved.
Behold:
Mr Ramos was on his way to Boston from Houston when this passenger managed to tick him off - and rightfully so - by dangling her ponytail off her seat, over his partner's in-flight entertainment unit. As you can see in the picture, the woman seems completely unaware of her hair situation while playing a game on her phone.
"Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I'll assume she didn't realise that her, er, readjustment would affect anyone else," Mr Ramos told Metro.co.uk. So he waited a while, then clicked a picture and asked the woman to move her hair away.
"Without really looking up from her device, she brought her seatback forward, and the ponytail disappeared," Mr Ramos told Metro.co.uk. He eventually tweeted the picture on his way from the Logan International Airport and almost overnight the photo went viral.
Since being posted on March 29, the photo has been retweeted over 9,300 times and 'liked' more than 9,000 times. Sympathising commenters suggested Mr Ramos would have been justified in snipping off the offending hair with a pair of scissors (oh carry-on luggage rules, why so cruel?), dipping it in a glass of cola or 'accidentally' pulling on it.

Congrats to the ponytailed young woman in seat 22B. You've invented a whole new way to be awful at 35,000 feet. pic.twitter.com/VWTPMI5JrM

For the record: After marveling for a bit at her obliviousness, we got her attention. She moved it. https://t.co/qalACLcFUr
