Newly-Released Footage Shows Meghan Markle In Saree During India Visit
Meghan Markle visited India as part of her work for the World Vision charity in 2017.

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, wore a saree and a bindi during her January 2017 visit to India, previously-unreleased footage shows. Meghan visited India as part of her work with the charity World Vision. According to Daily Mail, at the time of the trip, no official photographs or videos were released. Meghan had visited Delhi and Mumbai as part of her World Vision trip - about one year before she married Prince Harry.

Now, the footage released on the British news outlet ITV shows us glimpses from that trip. In the video, Meghan is seen visiting a school to promote better sanitation facilities for girls, sitting amidst a group of women in a green and blue saree, planting flowers, and enjoying a dance performance.

"What we found is that the enrollment at this school went up three times once the latrines were built so that girls had access to clean hygiene and bathroom facilities while they're at school," she tells the cameras at one point.

On her return, the duchess wrote about her experience in the Time magazine.

"I traveled to Delhi and Mumbai this January with World Vision to meet girls and women directly impacted by the stigmatization of menstrual health and to learn how it hinders girls' education," she wrote.

"During my time in the slum communities outside of Mumbai, I shadowed women who are part of a microfinance system where they manufacture sanitary napkins and sell them within the community," she wrote, talking about the Myna Mahila Foundation, which works with women and girls who live in Mumbai's slums.

Myna Mahila was one of the seven charities the Duke and Duchess of Sussex nominated for donations during their wedding, in lieu of wedding presents.

The couple are expecting their first baby in the coming days.
