Kim Kardashian, please note - this is how the internet is broken. A dress, or rather #TheDress, is raising a storm in a tweet-cup because nobody, absolutely nobody, can decide what colour it is. Social media has run through a whole spectrum of emotions in the Great Dress Debate.
For more than 24 hours now, people across social media have been arguing about whether a picture that's gone viral shows a dress that is blue with a black lace fringe or white with a gold lace fringe.
The picture was initially posted on Tumblr by 21-year-old singer named Caitlin
McNeill, who asked for help in deciding what colour the dress was as she and her friends couldn't agree. Twitter rushed to help and soon #TheDress was trending worldwide.
At first, it confused social media:
I don't understand this odd dress debate and I feel like it's a trick somehow. I'm confused and scared. PS it's OBVIOUSLY BLUE AND BLACK
- Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) February 27, 2015
I've never been more confused in my life. And I've listened to @replouiegohmert speeches on the House floor. #whiteandgold #blackandblue
- Mark Takano (@RepMarkTakano) February 27, 2015
Soon, it was ruining partnerships personal and professional:
What color is that dress? I see white & gold. Kanye sees black & blue, who is color blind?
- Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) February 27, 2015
It's obviously #whiteandgold
- Marie Claire (@marieclaire) February 27, 2015
Ike, bj and Messina think it's white and gold. Ders and I think it's blue and black. #themindyproject may have to shut down for the night
- Mindy Kaling (@mindykaling) February 27, 2015
"911, what's your emergency?" "I can't fall asleep." "How come? " "#TheDress"
- Ryan Shattuck (@ryanmer) February 27, 2015
It inspired a lot of memes too:
Aw, c'mon, not again, man. #TheDress pic.twitter.com/YtM83lHVJy

Some pointed out that the Earth was still spinning:
Whenever something like #TheDress is trending, ask yourself what major news event people should know about is being ignored
- Carl Gibson (@uncutcg) February 27, 2015
wait wait...it's a ruse...we been obsessing over #TheDress, did something significant happen in the news that we SHOULD be talking about?
- Questlove Gomez (@questlove) February 27, 2015
What's the big deal? My batsuit has been white and gold for years. #TheDress

Friendships other than Caitlin's took a hit:

I heard that #TheDress debate has already destroyed 18 relationships. These people probably shouldn't be breeding anyway.
- God (@TheGoodGodAbove) February 27, 2015
I hope you've lost friends over this. #TheDress

Some people turned to science and reason:
It has everything to do with how your brain naturally balances light and color, and nothing to do with how good your vision is. #TheDress
- Luke Kicklighter (@Kickbuttlighter) February 27, 2015
If you haven't solved the mystery of #TheDress yet...well then here ya go pic.twitter.com/optZOMR3W9

#TheDress illustrates that we can't know anyone else experiences reality the same way we do, only that we all experience the same reality.
- Chris O'Brien (@microbrien) February 27, 2015
And finally, they gave up. They just wanted to kill the dress:
Someone please just set the dress on fire. #TheDress
- Professor Snape (@_Snape_) February 27, 2015

- Mindy Kaling (@mindykaling) February 27, 2015
According to Mashable , the dress can be bought from British clothing retailer Roman Originals and costs £50. And well, it seems the dress isn't available in white and gold.
