"Feeling the everyday rhythm of Madras life": That's the title of a new video posted by the US Consulate General in Chennai on their Facebook page. This video, going viral, celebrates the spirit of the city on the occasion of Madras Day.

August 22 - the day Madras was founded in 1639 - celebrates not only the city, but also a way of life. And while the city has been rechristened Chennai, the day still remains "Madras Day" as a tribute to its rich colonial past.

Guided tours to heritage sites, tree walks, photo exhibition and storytelling sessions were held to celebrate the city's 377th birthday.

But how better to celebrate the than with the perfect meal?

A few members from the US Consulate in Chennai decided to go on a gastronomical journey at Kasivinayaga Mess. This meant eating the scrumptious food with their bare hands served on banana leaves. And boy, did they enjoy!

"We should come here every day," you can hear of them say.

Since it was posted on August 21, the video has received over 1.6 million views and more than 49,600 shares.
