It is said it takes a village to raise a child. And it's only that much harder for single mothers who often have to juggle school or work while bringing up their kids. However, one mum's recent experience shows that some challenges can be overcome, especially with the help of kind and understanding people. Her post about her professor offering her a helping hand has resonated with thousands of people on Facebook.
Ashton Robinson, a student at Texas A&M University, emailed her professor to tell him she wouldn't be able to attend his class because she couldn't find a babysitter for her son, Emmett. Dr Henry Musoma, her professor, did the sweetest thing by asking her to bring her son along to class. Now Ms Robinson's post, complete with a picture and video showing Dr Musoma holding Emmett during class, has gone crazy viral. Since being posted on September 7, the post has collected over 46,000 reactions and more than 12,000 shares.
"Being a single mom is so challenging but it's people like Dr. Henry Musoma that make life just a tiny bit easier!" Ms Robinson says on Facebook. "Definitely something I'll never forget and can't wait to someday tell Emmett that it's because of people like this that mommy was able to graduate from the best university in the world," she adds.
Isn't that just adorable? We sure think so and so do many on Facebook.
"This is so amazing! I've had to take my three year old son along and I understand the stress. You worry about distracting fellow classmates but know you must keep going for your own success. So thankful for professors like this and great job mom for pursuing your degree! Keep it up," says one Facebook user on the post. "Thanks for sharing this! It certainly takes a village. Also reminder there is more good than bad in this world!" says another.
This isn't the first time a professor's act of kindness has gone viral. In June, Morgan King, a single mother studying Therapeutic Recreation at the University of Tennessee, shared a post about her professor offering to take care of her baby if she couldn't find help. Her tweet also went viral.
