Startling footage of a vigilant bus driver in China saving a woman from committing suicide is being shared across social media.
Captured on a CCTV camera in the bus on October 25, the video shows driver Bian Pengfei slamming on the brakes and sprinting out of the bus to stop the woman from jumping into the Yangtze River in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province. The young woman, dressed in pink, can be seen with one leg over the railing, ready to jump. Her story might have ended in tragedy had it not been for Mr Pengfei's alertness.
Bounding out of the bus towards her, Bian Pengfei manages to drag the woman into the safety of the bus. She resists violently but is finally forced to climb into the bus with the help of passers-by and commuters.
According to reports, the police were asked to intervene and she was later sent for counselling.
