Madurai:
A motor cyclist caused a flutter when he slowed down his bike, swerved and jumped off it at a busy junction here when a cobra hiding in the pouch on the petrol tank raised its hood and hissed menacingly, police said.
Traffic police found that youth had jumped off the vehicle, getting frightened by the snake.
The incident occurred near the busy Goripalayam junction in Madurai on Tuesday.
"When I was nearing the Goripalayam junction I heard the hissing sound, and suddenly the snake's hood blocked my vision. I got panicky and jumped off my vehicle and moved away," motor cyclist Saravanan said.
The snake, measuring about six feet, came out of the vehicle and tried to slither away but people on the spot stoned it to death.
After thoroughly checking the motor cycle, Saravanan took his vehicle. Traffic in the area was affected for sometime following the incident, police said.
